Interview ft. Jamie & Gracie-Mae

Children are, lets face it, a mystery- & what's going on in their little heads is often as baffling as it is hilarious.

There has been a great post circling around Facebook for a while now, where you are encouraged to sit down with your child & ask certain questions without any prompting, you then repost the questions & answers along with the child's name & age.

I have seen loads of my Facebook Mummy & Daddy friends do this & the answers their children were coming up with were so funny & endearing that I decided to do the exercise with my children.

So here's how my 'interview' went with Jamie(8yrs old) & Gracie-Mae(6yrs old).....

1. What is something Mummy always says to you?

Jamie: Please can you listen to me?

Gracie-Mae: Can you keep Isaac happy for abit please?

2. What makes Mummy happy?

Jamie: Going out to the beach.

Gracie-Mae: Me & Jamie listening to you.

3. What makes Mummy sad?

Jamie: Us not listening.

Gracie-Mae: Us not listening.

Well if you know this, then why can't you bloody start listening then?!

4. How does Mummy make you laugh?

Jamie: By tickling me.

Gracie-Mae: Being funny when we play games.

5. What was Mummy like as a child?

Jamie: I have no idea.

Gracie-Mae: A good girl but sometimes naughty.

I think my parents would completely disagree with this & say I was the devil child from hell. Sorry Mum & Dad.

6. How old is Mummy?

Jamie: 27.

Gracie-Mae: 27.

7. How tall is Mummy?

Jamie: About 7.0 Metres.

Gracie-Mae: 27 Metres.

My kids must think I'm like a freakin' Giant!!

8. What is Mummy's favourite thing to do?

Jamie: Cooking.

Gracie-Mae: Looking after Isaac.

9. What does Mummy do when you are not around?

Jamie: Look after Isaac.

Gracie-Mae: Look after Isaac.

10. If Mummy becomes famous, what will it be for?

Jamie: Singing because you have a really good voice.

Gracie-Mae: Dancing.

Seriously have no idea why they think I can sing & dance. I really, really can't! Unless you count singing nursery rhymes completely out of tune & if shaking my hips whilst hoovering counts as dancing?

11. What is Mummy really good at?

Jamie: Cooking & Singing.

Gracie-Mae: Looking after us Kids & Cooking.

12. What is Mummy not very good at?

Jamie: Baking Cakes, they always stick to the pan.

Gracie-Mae: Doing the splits.

Yep will totally agree with both of them here, I can't bake for shit & I tried doing the splits the other day, well, it didn't end well, I'll leave it as that.

13. What does Mummy do for a job?

Jamie: Being a housewife.

Gracie-Mae: Looking after us kids.

14. What is Mummy's favourite food?

Jamie: Turkey Burgers that you make.

Gracie-Mae: Home-made Curry that you make. Anything healthy really.

15. What makes you proud of Mummy?

Jamie: Your cooking.

Gracie-Mae: Your cooking, its yum, yum!

Nice to know my cooking is appreciated! Half the time I swear they say they like it, to avoid hurting my feelings.

16. If Mummy was a character, who would she be?

Jamie: Scooby-Doo, because you are really good at doing his voices.

Gracie-Mae: Cinderella.

I'm crap at imitating Scooby-Doo, I'm pretty sure I like never imitate him, but nice to know Jamie finds it amusing. And Cinderella, well she cooks, cleans & dresses in rags, so I'll give Gracie-Mae that.

17. What do you & Mummy do together?

Jamie: Going out to fun places & cooking together.

Gracie-Mae: Playing board games.

18. How are you & Mummy the same?

Jamie: We both like our sleep.

Gracie-Mae: We are both girls.

19. How are you & Mummy different?

Jamie: We have different coloured eyes.

Gracie-Mae: We wear different size clothes.

20. How do you know Mummy loves you?

Jamie: Because you hug & kiss me lots.

Gracie-Mae: Because you tell me all the time.

21. What does Mummy like most about Daddy?

Jamie: Daddy being really funny.

Gracie-Mae: Daddy makes you laugh loads.

Hmmm, I think I'll beg to differ on this one.

22. Where is Mummy's favourite place to go?

Jamie: To the beach.

Gracie-Mae: On holiday.

23. How old was Mummy when you were born?

Jamie: I have no idea.

Gracie-Mae: 21.

I was 18 years old when I gave birth to Jamie, Gracie-Mae was very close, I was 20 years old when she was born.

Their responses brought such a smile to my face & really touched me. After we finished, I had one of those 'lightbulb' parenting moments. Why, you ask? Well it was a great way to see how they view me & the world.

This exercise taught me that there is simply nothing better than looking at the world from a child's perspective. The little things really matter to them. Our children offer us their awareness, innocence & optimisim. Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't all of us use a little bit more of this in our life?
