Cook Up A Festive Kitchen

Home is where the heart is, & the heart of the home is in the kitchen. Well, it is in our house anyway.

I know it’s still only November, but I’m already thinking about different ways to decorate my home, including my kitchen.

It’s lovely to wake up on Christmas morning & have the family gather in the kitchen.  It’s the ideal place for a meal, cup of coffee with Christmas treats, & the place where we tend to spend a considerable amount of time during the festive period – so it makes sense to bring some Christmas joy to the kitchen, right?

So I’ve come up with a few simple suggestions, to help you decorate your kitchen all ready for the big day. So its time for you to dig out the Christmas decorations & create a kitchen winter wonderland for you & your family!

A Christmas Wreath

Bring your wreath inside – wreaths look great on front doors, but bring them inside & they can add a festive glamour to your kitchen door or window. This will add instant Christmas cheer to the otherwise undecorated room & won’t take up space. I love the traditional Christmassy colours in this Wintery Pine Pre-Lit Wreath

Accessorise with Red

If you don’t want to clutter your kitchen with decorations, opt for a few simple accessories. Like these Tea Towels, Oven Mitts & Cake Tin. Why don’t you try decorating your space by hanging twinkly lights & cards beneath surfaces & above cupboards. Twinkly lights are an instant Christmas pick me up & look great in the kitchen. Hung up high, they are out of the way & a simple decoration, but have a huge impact.

Festive Tablewear

Lay out your table with festive items, you don’t need much to make your table look Christmas Ready. You can grab some ideas from one of my previous posts here.

Smell like Christmas

The kitchen always smells amazing throughout the festive period, with copious amounts of cooking & baking which is inevitable! But there is nothing wrong with wanting to add an extra Christmas whiff. This Christmas Memories Candle Gift Set would be perfect. Not only do they smell gorgeous, but they look good too!

If your kitchen is looking festive ready, why not look the part yourself when your preparing all those yummy Christmas goodies, or even preparing your Christmas Dinner? By wearing this Personalised Christmas Dinner Apron. They look fantastic! MR.B has the honours preparing & cooking Christmas Dinner this year, Mama gets a day off, Yay!

Do you like to dress up your kitchen ready for the festive season? Mr.B & I have already started on our present wrapping & watching Christmas Movies with the children... eeekk! I can’t wait!

Simple Christmas Mantle Decor Ideas

“The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there…” ~ Clement Clarke Moore.

Christmas is a magical time of year, isn’t it? It happens to be (as you have surely guessed by now!) my most favourite time of the year & a time when I absolutely love to decorate my house.

There seem to be two key areas where my love for festive decor shines the brightest–the Christmas tree (of course) & the fireplace mantel. I’m a really big fan of a traditional Christmas Mantel, with lots of layers of full greenery, & pops of saturated colour.

I haven’t started to decorate properly...yet! But I have put a few bits & pieces out already, as I really cannot help myself! I’ve put together my own little checklist as it were, of what items I’m going to use to decorate my Mantel, maybe you’ll be able to get some inspo.

First up is the Garland

Let’s face it, for most of us, decorating an entire mantel with real greenery is not affordable or feasible. As much as I drool over those staged magazine shots of the quintessential Christmas mantel draped with fresh cedar garland, I know it’s not gonna happen in my house – & maybe not yours? (If yes, then I am soooo envious!)

So I’ve opted for this Traditional Christmas Garland with Pinecones & Berries from Tesco Direct, & it’s a bargain for only £10.00!! I’m going to use this as my foundation, weave some pretty, twinkling lights through, then bulk out with some festive accessories.

Next up is Bunting-

There is something about plaid & burlap that makes me think of ‘Simple, Country.’ I just love the natural touches & look. This Merry Christmas Bunting ticks all those boxes. It’s been really well made & very sturdy, so I can tell this is going to last for years!

Then we have Accessories

Talking about loving the natural look, I’m absolutely in love with this beautiful Christmas Log Couple Artwork. Stunning, isn’t it?! It’s made up from solid oak & delicately cut into a very cute love heart & arrow shape, engraved with your initials, just like the ones you would draw in your school books, back in the day. I can’t wait for it to be delivered, it’s going to look fab at the foot of my fireplace. This would also make a brilliant Christmas gift, say for a couple on their first Christmas together.

Can you get any more traditional, using this Large Christmas Nutcracker? I haven’t purchased any as of yet, but I think this one has my heart. May have to buy 2, just so I can make it symmetrical, haha!

One for the ‘Home Alone’ fans out there. This brilliant Merry Christmas Ya Filthy Animal Print, looks absolutely fab on top of the Mantel, but if you haven’t got a Mantel, not to worry! It would make the perfect finishing touch anywhere in your living room.

This is one for the children. My 2 eldest children always insist in ‘helping me’ with the Christmas Decor, instead of fighting it, (you learn to pick your battles when it comes to kids!) I just tend to let them carry on, & 9/10 they’ve done a fab job! When they learnt that this Personalised Christmas Countdown Stag Head was on it’s way to them in the post, they’ve insisted it has to be hung somewhere around the fireplace. So that is where it shall be hung. Kids!

Last but not least Candles-

I plan to buy a couple of candle stick holders like this one here, to place on top of my Mantel & use traditional Christmas red candles. I think the copper finish would match well, & they are only £5.00!

Seriously want to pull all my decorations down from my loft now & get decorating!! Although Mr.B loves Christmas just as much as I do, I don’t think he would go for it... not just yet anyway! Do you get excited about getting your home all festive ready? Or are you dreading the very thought of it?

12 Days Of Christmas Series: Day 10- Christmas Eve Box Filler Ideas

We are well into November now, & Christmas really isn’t all that far away, Yay! How are you guys getting on with your Christmas shopping? Well underway, planning to hit the shops soon, or have no ideas & dreading the very thought?

Now is the time where the build up to Christmas well & truly starts, I think the build up of magic & excitement is just as important as the day itself, don’t you agree?

A few years ago MR.B & I decided to start up a new Family Christmas Tradition by introducing a
Christmas Eve Box brought in by Santa’s Little Elves. The idea is that you fill a box for your child on Christmas Eve to bring some magic to the day, with everything inside designed to get them excited about waking up the next morning. What I love about the idea is that you can tailor it to age, preferences, & budget.

You can even buy boxes personalised like this one here.

Now what to put in the special box? Don’t go thinking you have to go rush buying & stuffing your boxes to the brim, this selection that I’ve put together are just lots of different ideas.

Christmas Pyjamas

I always include a new pair of pyjamas for each of the children in the box, I’ve ordered this #SantaSquad Pyjama Set, so they are going to be all matchy, matchy. They make for great photo opps & it’s a fun gift. Jamie & Gracie-Mae especially love opening up new pjs & then going to sleep in them.

Christmas Themed Books

Jamie & Gracie-Mae are both Little book worms, just like their Mama, give them a book that they enjoy & sometimes you won’t see them for hours! Isaac is also starting to enjoy sitting there whilst I read him a book, I absolutely love having these quiet moments with him. (It’s pretty much the only time he will sit quietly in my lap, haha!) So this Children’s Christmas Eve Book Bundle will be just perfect, I know the children are going to go mad for them! The retail price of this fabulous bundle is £24.99 which I think is a great price as it’s a mix of 5 books, gift wrapped in red & green tissue paper.  It also comes with a gift card for you to write your own special gift message. If your a book lover like myself, you will adore The Beautiful Book Company’s fab selection.

I could also get you a cheeky 10% Off your orders just use this code- Xmascheer at the checkout.

Christmas Mug & Hot Chocolate

Who doesn’t love snuggling up on the sofa with a cup of hot cocoa? A Christmas themed mug & a Reindeer Styled Hot Chocolate Cone would make for a great Christmas Eve Box Filler. These great cones are only 95p! Bargain!

If you have more than the one child you could always try a...

Christmas Eve Box Filler Set

This Christmas Eve Filler Set retails at just £5.00 & you can also add this Unicorn Treats Set for an extra £5.00. Perfect for the Unicorn obsessed child, like my Gracie-Mae! These sets include the following;

  • A Certificate From Santa
  • Snowman Poop
  • Elf Kisses
  • A Reindeer Hot Chocolate Cone with Candy Cane
  • Magic Reindeer Food
  • Unicorn Poop
  • Unicorn Tears
  • A Unicorn Hot Chocolate Cone

Santa’s Treat Board

What better way to put out Santa’s Treats than using this bright & festive Personalised Christmas Placemat For Santa’s Treats? I adore the Scandi-inspired festive design in red, green & white. We normally just put Santa & Rudolph’s Treats on one of our standard plates, so I know for a fact the children are going to love this just as much as I do, even more so as it’s personalised with their names along with a little message to Santa. This Treat Board retails at £14.95.

Magical Reindeer Food

When all the excitement of Christmas Eve is nearly over, & it’s nearly time for bed, the children will go hang up their stockings then go outside to sprinkle some magical reindeer food all around the front of our house & all around the back garden. I love these Twinkling Magical Reindeer Food In A Bag, these bags are filled with oats mixed in with edible glitter & sugar stars, so if your child just has to know what Reindeer Food tastes like...then these are safe for them to try! They are also a bargain for only £4.00 a bag!

Chocolate Christmas Card
I know this isn’t your usual, Christmas Eve Box Filler, but... I LOVE this idea, it’s a little bit different & something the children wouldn’t be expecting at all. These cards are made up with Belgian Chocolate & you can choose any message that you would like. I chose ‘Happy Christmas’ you could also make it a photo gift with a festive photo of the family, which you could also include a little message on the back. We decided to have the message written up by Santa, to make it that extra bit special for the children. You can buy these fab Chocolate Christmas Cards from here, & retails at £12.50.

Children’s Christmas Eve Kit

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all thro' the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;~ Clement Clarke Moore

And he certainly will be there with this gorgeous Children’s Christmas Eve Kit! I LOVE the vintage style Hessian Bag, personalised with the children’s names on the tag, & all these cute little accessories fit perfectly inside it.

This wonderful kit costs just £10.00 & includes the following;

  • ‘Drink Me’ tag to tie on Santa’s drink
  • Party Pick to put in Santa’s mince pie
  • Organza bag filled with jimmy reindeer food for Rudolph
  • Note card & kraft envelope for the children to write Santa a message
  • Tag containing Santa’s Magic Key

Christmas Scrapbook

This one is probably more for the adults than the children (shhh, don’t tell them!), If your anything like me & love documenting your family life, than this Personalised Christmas Keepsake Scrapbook would be perfect for you! It’s a fab way to keep pictures & notes all in one place, from everyone in the family to remember the magical day.

Christmas Baubles

One of our other Christmas traditions, is to get a new Christmas Tree Dec every year, one for each of the children. These personalised Round & Star Christmas Baubles are perfect for their box. They are so beautifully made & would make a brilliant gift as a memorabilia for say a child’s 1st Christmas.

Ahhh writing this post has made me even more excited for Christmas, if that’s even possible?! Do you make up a Christmas Eve Box for your little ones? If so what items do you like to put in them?

12 Days Of Christmas Series: Day 9- Christmas Gift Guide For Children aged 7+

Is it just me, or do children get sooo much harder to buy for, as they get older?

The past couple of years, MR.B & I get stumped around Birthdays & Christmas’ with ideas for Jamie & Gracie-Mae. They don’t really tend to play with toys that much anymore, & whatever toys they do receive, get played with a handful of times & then become an ornament in their bedroom, & toys are pretty bloody expensive nowadays!!

They have both written out Christmas List’s to Santa, which are as long as my flipping house! So you’d think it would be easy to decide on what to get them for Christmas. The only problem is their lists are often full of things we don’t want to buy for them. Let me explain:

I went through their lists the other evening, went through the catalogue, had a skim online & I just couldn’t get over the ridiculous prices on some of these toys & gadgets!! We don’t mind spending money, but I’m not prepared to spend £55 bloody pound on a plastic toy for it to be, like I said above, an ornament in their room out for ‘show’. We learnt our mistake from last year!

So I’ve put together, with my children in mind, my own Christmas Gift Guide For Children aged 7+. If your anything like me & struggle with ideas, I hope this guide gives you some inspiration.

Can you tell we are slightly Unicorn mad over here?! Anyway, if you’ve got any good Christmas Childrens Gift Ideas, please, please, please send them my way!

*Disclaimer- I was kindly gifted items of the following- Grey Arrow Tracket Jacket & Joggers, Giant Colour In Christmas Tree Poster & Personalised Christmas Chocolate Angels Baking Kit with Apron, for the purpose of a feature in this post, however I wouldn’t recommend any products, if I didn’t truly love them.
